Old TV Cabinets

I was inspired to read about a fellow parent about to start construction of a toy kitchen. Her idea revolves around re-fashioning an old TV cabinet. I checked out some links for further inspiration and am truly amazed by what some people have achieved.

Unfortunately, a trip to some local op shops yielded some shocking finds: the cheapest secondhand TV cabinet was priced at $280. After I picked my jaw up off the ground and lamenting the loss of the op shops of old when you could actually find bargains and walk out with a bag of excellent vintage clothing for $20 or less, I have instead decided to put the call out to family and friends to see if anyone may have one they no longer want. Will also check out eBay etc.

First Post: The Idea

Today I decided I am going to attempt to create a wooden toy kitchen for my 18 month old daughter in time for her 2nd birthday.

This blog will document this mission and hopefully keep me on track.

I have no wood working experience. I only have my vision, my enthusiasm and the www at my disposal. Plus I'm sure Bunnings (local hardware store) will come into the equation at some point.

My first step will be to make a trip to a local junkyard for inspiration and to scout for potential recycled materials.

Here is my 18 month old. She likes drawing (on the walls), head banging to music, dolls and eating.
